Brason Lee, From Coma to Capitol Hill: A Story of Survival and National Impact
[KEYMARK TELEVISION PRESSWIRE – AUGUST 2, 2025]
Brason Lee, M.S.W., M.S., is gaining national recognition nearly four decades after surviving a traumatic brain injury at age 18. Once placed in a coma after a devastating three-wheel motorcycle accident, Lee’s recovery journey has become a symbol of perseverance and public service.
Over the next decade, he relearned how to walk, speak, and write. He later earned dual master’s degrees in Social Work and Gerontology at the University of Southern California.
Today, Lee is not only a published author and public health researcher, but also a vocal advocate for disability justice on Capitol Hill. He has contributed to state and national policy debates related to health, mental health, education, access to services, and long term care reform. His insights—rooted in personal experience—are helping inform legislation that impacts millions of Americans with acquired or invisible disabilities.
His upcoming memoir, Without a Helmet, chronicles this transformation. It details his experience navigating the healthcare system, academic challenges, and government institutions. The book also calls for structural change and greater representation of disabled voices in policymaking.
“Too many survivors are left behind in systems designed without them in mind,” Lee said. “We need solutions shaped by the people who’ve lived it.”
As the national conversation around disability and trauma-informed leadership continues, Lee’s story stands as a rare blend of personal recovery and systemic impact.
