Series Uplifting Voices, Dismantling Stigma, and Driving Change
Now Airing on Keymark Television & Streaming on Roku
Dallas, Texas — 10-14-2025 — Keymark Television, the media arm of The Caring Star Foundation, is thrilled to announce the launch of a new, first-of-its-kind talk series, Navigating Disability, now airing on Keymark Television and streaming on Roku (12 p CST). This series is hosted by Kate Read and Jenn Abbott and offers an honest, powerful, and uplifting look at the lived experiences of people with disabilities, while catalyzing conversations about inclusion, resilience, and systemic change.
A Mission of Visibility, Understanding & Impact
While disability is a lived reality for over one billion people globally, misconceptions, barriers, and invisibility continue to persist. Navigating Disability rejects the “inspiration fad” trope and instead offers a platform for authentic, multidimensional storytelling. Through conversations with advocates, artists, educators, athletes, family members, and people with visible and invisible disabilities, the show explores themes such as:
- Breaking down stigma and discriminatory assumptions
- Practical strategies for navigating healthcare, employment, accessibility, and rights
- The power of disability identity, community, and culture
- Stories of advocacy, innovation, and everyday brilliance
The program is grounded in respect, equity, and narrative justice: centering the voices of people with disabilities not as objects of pity or exception, but as human beings with full agency, creativity, and insight.
Why This Matters and Why Now
- Representation shifts mindsets. Research on media representation shows that sustained, nuanced exposure to people with disabilities can reduce bias, promote empathy, and challenge societal stereotypes. The “parasocial contact” effect (familiarity through media) helps dismantle fear and discomfort around difference.
- Administrative barriers remain real. Countless individuals and families struggle to navigate complex systems like Social Security, Medicaid waivers, accommodations, and medical benefits. For example, new research highlights the intense administrative burdens in accessing SSI/SSDI benefits and the impact on both beneficiaries and employment incentives.
- Disability culture is rich, vibrant, and dynamic. Disability is a source of creativity, alternative perspectives, adaptive thinking, community, and pride.
- Media is a tool for social change. When media platforms commit to inclusive storytelling, they help redefine public perceptions, influence policy discourse, and provide role models for younger generations.
